Got Questions Want to Know More?
Questions and Answers to help you better understand the River!

What kind of church is The River? The River Church is an interdenominational Christian Church, which means that all types of people from all kinds of religious and nonreligious backgrounds comprise the congregation. Central to all is that Jesus Christ is worshiped and the Bible is believed. We are contemporary in worship and offer a relaxed, fun environment.

Are you part of a denomination? The River is part of an association called the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (FEC), based in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Though we are given independence as a local church, the FEC offers leadership support, and the protection and oversight of a reputable, long-standing, and godly organization. We are also a "partner church" of Hosanna! Lutheran of Lakeville. Hosanna! Lutheran has graciously provided financial support and counsel for our success. In addition, we are a member of the Willow Creek Association.

Do you offer communion at your Sunday service? Yes, we celebrate an open communion on the second Sunday of each month.

Why don’t you sing hymns? Occasionally we do, but generally we choose more contemporary music for the purpose of reaching the younger generation who no longer relates to hymns. We acknowledge the beauty, solid doctrine, and rich tradition of hymns, but there are many fine churches in Farmington already who do worship in the traditional style with hymns.

Who can I talk to for answers about spiritual things? We welcome your questions, and will do our best to answer them or direct you to appropriate resources. There might be a book we know of that addresses just that issue! Please talk to a Pastor, Ministry Director, or call 651-460-6570.

How is the River financially supported? The River Church is solely supported by the faithful tithes and offerings of those who attend. We don’t believe in pushing or “guilting” people to give. We see that as people grow in understanding and trusting in the Lordship of Christ and His instructions regarding money, giving comes cheerfully and voluntarily. We are a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization and all gifts are tax deductible. Financial reports are provided quarterly and available by calling the church office.

How do I join this church? We feel membership is a very important and serious step for any growing Christian. If you are relatively new to The River, we encourage you to “plug in” for a while to see if we are the sort of organization you would like to commit to! Pick up an information flyer and check out our church vision. When you are ready to look into membership, contact the leadership and we will meet with you to review our philosophy, strategy and beliefs.

I’m pretty new in my faith in God, do you have some resources that can help me grow?
Yes! There are Bible studies that we could recommend for you, and various small groups that you could get involved with if you wanted to, depending on your comfort level. There are also volunteers available who are willing to coach you in your faith. Contact us and we’ll do our best to help you!

How involved do I have to be here? Only to the degree that you are comfortable. No one’s going to make you go to or be involved in anything. It seems, however, that most people find getting involved in church activities builds friendships with others and helps them in their spiritual growth. We encourage people to step out of their comfort zones!

How can I get prayer support and counseling? We believe in prayer! If you have any special concerns that you would like others to pray for, please call the church office – or if you’re in church, note it and place it in the offering box on the table. The ministry team (see contact information) and other qualified prayer counselors are also available for prayer and counseling upon request. We can also provide contact information for professional counselors to assist you in your specific needs. In addition, there are small groups available for ongoing spiritual needs and community support.
